For your safety, we recommend staying inside your vehicle with your hazard lights on while waiting for our technician. If you're in an unsafe location, such as on a busy highway, try to move to a safer area if possible.
1. Stay Inside Your Vehicle: If you're on a busy road or highway, the safest place is inside your vehicle with your seatbelt fastened. Exiting your vehicle could put you in harm's way, especially in areas with heavy traffic.
2. Turn on Hazard Lights: Make sure your vehicleβs hazard lights are on to alert other drivers that you're experiencing an issue. This helps improve visibility, especially in low-light conditions or bad weather.
3. Move to a Safe Location: If possible, steer your vehicle to the side of the road, out of the flow of traffic. If youβre on a highway, try to reach the nearest exit or pull over onto the shoulder.
4. Keep Your Doors Locked: While waiting for help, keep your doors locked to ensure your safety. If someone other than the assistance provider approaches you, itβs better to remain inside and talk through a slightly cracked window.
5. Stay Visible: If you have emergency road flares or reflective triangles, place them behind your car to increase your visibility to oncoming traffic. These tools can be especially helpful at night or in bad weather conditions.
6. Use Your Phone Safely: Try not to use your phone while driving. Once safely parked, make sure your phone is charged, and communicate your location clearly to the roadside assistance provider.
7. Be Cautious of Strangers Offering Help: If anyone other than the service provider offers assistance, be polite but cautious. Itβs best to wait for professional help, especially if youβre unsure about the personβs intentions.
8. Ventilate the Car: If you need to stay in your vehicle for an extended period, keep the windows slightly open to allow fresh air circulation. This is important, especially in cold or hot conditions.
9. Stay Alert in Poor Weather: If you break down during poor weather conditions, keep an extra eye on your surroundings. Snow, rain, or fog can make it harder for drivers to see your vehicle. Staying inside and keeping lights on is essential.
10. Prepare for Emergencies: Carry an emergency kit in your vehicle with items such as water, non-perishable snacks, a flashlight, a blanket, and a first-aid kit. This can provide comfort and safety while waiting for assistance.
